FORT A.P. HILL, Va. – Fort A.P. Hill invites the public to participate in a Volksmarch, hosted by the Fort A.P. Hill F&MWR and Germanna Volkssport Association, Nov. 6.
Participants can walk or run at their own pace anytime between 8 a.m. to noon on a 5K or 10K trail beginning and ending at Heth Schoolhouse. The trail includes passing by historic Liberty Church, constructed in 1850 and a well-preserved example of the churches built in Caroline County during the Antebellum period. The church, considered eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, will be open to participants.
Volksmarch, which means “peoples’ march” in German, is of non-competitive fitness walking that developed in Europe.
“A Volksmarch on Fort A.P. Hill will be a great way to spend some quality time with your family, see the natural beauty of Fort A.P. Hill’s wilderness and possibly see some wildlife,” said Kris D’Alessandro, Director of F&MWR.
Only the 5K trail is wheel chair and stroller accessible. Pets are allowed but must be on leashes. Food and beverages as well as Fort A.P. Hill 70th Anniversary T-shirts and glasses will be available for purchase.
