FORT A.P. HILL, Va. – About 110 Army Civilian employees were furloughed without pay at U.S. Army Garrison Fort A.P. Hill today as part of the federally-mandated furlough.
Civilian employees cannot work until the Congress passes appropriation legislation.
The furlough will shut down the Fort A.P. Hill Identification Card office as well as the hunting and fishing programs.

No hunting and fishing will be allowed on post nor will Outdoor Recreation issue hunting or fishing licenses until further notice.

Fort A.P. Hill police and firefighters are excepted from the furlough to protect the life, health and safety of people and property on post.
Approximately 15-20 Operations and Training directorate personnel are also excepted from the furlough to support units that are training for overseas deployments.
Army Family Lodging, gyms, Outdoor Recreation and Food and Beverage services will be open during their normal operating hours.

USAG Fort A.P. Hill commander Lt. Col. Peter E. Dargle said the furlough was a challenge for A.P. Hill and thanked employees for their service and professionalism in the face of adversity.

“You are an incredibly resilient force that has displayed incredible strength and fortitude. Your sacrifices are not lost on the many Warriors who continue to choose A.P. Hill as their training destination of choice. For all the Warriors who have tread this ground, and those that will undoubtedly continue to come, we say ‘Thank you.’”
